GARNISHMENTS:

The fee for serving garnishments is $90.00 plus mileage.  The service and mileage fee will be added to the amount of the judgment to be garnished.

If you have the Sheriff garnish a bank, most banks require (besides the defendant's name) another identifier such as a social security number or an account number. If you do not have an additional identifier, the Sheriff will still serve the garnishment, but your chances of receiving any funds on the garnishment are reduced dramatically.

In Iowa, garnishments expire in 120 days. After expiration, any funds received

will be sent to the appropriate Clerk of Court. Federal and State laws determine the maximum amount, if any, which can be garnished from a defendant's paycheck and annually.

Harrison County Jail retains the right to deny a visit when there is reason to believe that the visitor will endanger jail security or control of the jail. The jail houses 24 inmates, both male and female.  Jail staff performs all necessary functions within the jail, including serving the courts and conducting transports of inmates to and from other jails. The staff consists of 10 certified jailers with at least 2 on duty at all times.

Pursuant to Iowa Code Section 356.7 (subsection 1), the Harrison County Jail charges each sentenced inmate $25.00 per day for each day served.

A male inmate is allowed a visit of one (1), thirty (30) minute session by

you on a Tuesday only --OR-- Thursday only (per individual inmate per week).

Female Inmates Wed. You must call to schedule an appointment.

3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 30 min. limit

Only reading material and money may be brought to prisoners.  Everything brought for prisoners is subject to inspection. Visitors are not allowed to give anything directly to prisoners.

NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 WILL BE ALLOWED VISITATION UNLESS COURT ORDERED.  ANY CHILDREN LEFT IN THE OFFICE LOBBY WILL HAVE

TO HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION AT ALL TIMES.

Attorneys and ministers will be allowed unlimited access provided the visit is at

a reasonable hour. Once visitors leave the jail after visitation, they will not be allowed to return to visit. All visitors will sign the prisoner visitation sheet and complete all information on the sheet

Letters mailed to inmates must contain the inmate's full name as part of the address. The jail will not accept certain items through the mail. Restricted items include packages, obscene or pornographic materials, personal checks,  and any type of food. Mail should be addressed in the following manner:

Telephone Calls

Most inmates have daily access to telephones in their housing units.

Inmates cannot receive incoming telephone calls. After the booking process,

all telephone calls by inmates are collect and the financial responsibility of the receiver. The inmate may also purchase a phone card through the jail.

Inmate telephone services are provided through a contract with RELIANCE TELEPHONE.  Any questions regarding collect call charges that appear on your telephone bill should be referred to Reliance Telephone at 800-896-3201. The Patrol Division the backbone of the Sheriff's Office. We deploy five shifts, generally consisting of regular patrol deputies, with either a Sergeant or Corporal on duty overlapping with the regular patrol deputies.

Patrol is responsible for initially handling of calls for service and perform most initial investigations, including follow-up investigations, service of civil papers and provide citizen assistance activities.

The Sheriff's Office handles all routine and emergency calls and regularly patrols

all areas of the county.

The Sheriff and Sheriff's Deputies are the police force for residents of the unincorporated areas of the county.

The Sheriff's Office provides for contracted law enforcement for several smaller towns in the county.

The Sheriff's Office, by contract, provides law enforcement for the cities of Little Sioux, Magnolia, Modale, Mondamin, Persia, and Pisgah.

The Sheriff's Office also issues permits to purchase and carry firearms

like the 4-H Fair.

IA State Victim Notification Service 

The IowaVINE system is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or internet to search for information regarding the custody status

of their offender and to register to receive telephone and email notification when the offender’s custody status changes. This service is provided to assist victims

of crime who have a right to know about their offender’s custody status.

On or after July1, 1995, an individual who has been convicted or adjudicated of

a criminal offense against a minor, sexual exploitation, or a sexually violent crime or who was on probation, parole, or work release status, or who was incarcerated on or after July 1, 1995 is required to register. 

Registration does include individuals that have received a deferred sentence or deferred judgments and can include convictions from other jurisdictions such

as other states and/or federal convictions.

The following information is provided from the Iowa Sex Offender Registry to the public pursuant to Iowa Code chapter 692A.

The purpose of this information is to allow members of the public a means to protect themselves from individuals who have committed an offense that requires registration on the Sex Offender Registry.

Any member of the public must contact a sheriff's office or a police department in writing to request information regarding other persons required to register, regardless of the date of registration.

As part of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act the United States Congress passed the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offenders Registration Act, which bears the name of an 11-year old boy who was abducted at gunpoint and never seen again. The Act set forth guidelines for states to establish sex offender registry programs.In 1996 the Wetterling Act was amended by Megan's Law, which requires states to release relevant information about registered sex offenders to protect the public. This law bears the name of Megan Kanka, a seven year old girl who was sexually molested and murdered by a convicted sex offender after being invited into his home to play with his new puppy.
